I sit here quietly contemplating a blank piece of paper. Once I write my list of "to do's" on it, I sort of become that list. So I am trying to be careful. My list could include the "have to do's" like laundry or my list could support my "want to do's" like traveling to Philly just so I can relive the awesome experience of eating the best mango sorbet of my life. I look around my home and see the a million "should do's" and literally shudder. I could write all day but aside of feeling happy inside that I got to do this, it will serve no other purpose.
It was sort of ironic how, in my moments of trying to decide the fate of the rest of my day, I should happen upon this quote by Steve Jobs.
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
So, I listen to my heart. It decides that the sorbet is nice, but can wait for another day. It suggests highly that I tackle the laundry and dishes because I will undoubtedly feel good about getting it done once it's over. In fact, I shall pause here to do these things.... literally....
Done!!! And don't you feel special that you were a faint witness to doing laundry, dishes, and even some vacuuming! I was able to feed the turtles, plants and even eat a banana while I was away. And here's the kicker.... it took me less than 45 minutes to do it all!
For today, my list shall remain empty. I have decided to listen to what my heart wants instead. More coffee? Okay. A walk with the dog? Sounds good. A little yoga? Awesome. Cook a hearty meal for the fam? I can do that too.
Until next time, make sure you make room on your list for something your heart wants:)
